The Miami Heat won the NBA Championship this year and celebrating the 4th of July

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. The weather here in California is very warm at the moment. It is perfect to play sports and spend time outdoors.

Basketball

The Miami Heat won the NBA Championship this year. It was very exciting and their best player LeBron James was the best player of the year. The Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in the finals. Many basketball fans picked the Heat to win this year and most will pick them to win next year again.

4th of July

Americans celebrate 4th of July , which is the national day of America. It is about celebrating the independence of the country. Many Americans spend the day outside because the weather is very good. Fireworks have become an important part of celebrating the independence. Fireworks displays are held all over the country and they attract people who want to see the skies light up with many bright colors.

Espero que estén pasando un verano maravilloso. El clima aquí en California es muy cálido en este momento. Es perfecto para practicar deportes y para pasar tiempo al aire libre.

Baloncesto 

Los Miami Heat ganaron el campeonato de la NBA este año. El equipo tuvo una temporada muy emocionante y LeBron James fue seleccionado como el mejor jugador del año. Los Heat derrotaron a los Thunder de Oklahoma en la final. Muchos fanáticos del baloncesto habían apostado por la victoria de los Heat este año y seguramente harán lo mismo el año que viene.

4 de Julio 

Los estadounidenses celebran el 4 de julio, que es el día nacional de Estados Unidos. Es la celebración de la independencia del país. Muchos estadounidenses pasan el día al aire libre porque el clima es muy bueno. Los fuegos artificiales se han convertido en una parte importante de la celebración de la independencia. Hay despliegues de fuegos artificiales en todo lo largo y ancho del país y atraen a personas que quieren ver el cielo iluminado con muchos colores brillantes.

NBA Playoffs and Summer School

Sports

The NBA playoffs are almost over. The Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder are currently the last two teams left in the playoffs. Both teams are great and hopefully the games continue to be fun to watch.

The United States Open is currently being played in San Francisco, California. The Open is a major golf tournament that includes many of the top golfers in the world. It is held at the Olympic Club. It will be an exciting week of golf because of how tough the course is.

School

My summer classes have begun and they have been keeping me very busy. Summer courses are generally only one to two months long. The classes are filled with a great amount of homework. Sometimes it is tough but I do not mind because the class is short.

Las semifinales de la NBA ya terminaron. Los equipos Miami Heat y Oklahoma City Thunder son los que disputarán la final. Ambos equipos son muy buenos y se espera que los juegos sean emocionantes.

El Open de Estados Unidos actualmente se juega en San Francisco, California. Es un gran torneo de golf en el que participan muchos de los grandes golfistas del mundo. Se realiza en el Club Olímpico. Será una semana emocionante de golf debido a lo difícil del campo.

Estudios

Mis clases de verano ya comenzaron y me mantienen muy ocupado. Los cursos de verano duran, por lo general, de uno a dos meses. Las clases se complementan con una gran cantidad de tareas para la casa. A veces son difíciles, pero no me importa, porque las clases son por un corto período de tiempo.

Finals, The Avengers, Dark Shadow and the NBA Playoffs

Hi Everyone

School

This is my last week of school for the year. I have some final tests to take and projects to finish. I am excited for summer to start. This has been a great year at school. I had some great classes and teachers. 

Movies

I have seen some great movies lately. The Avengers was terrific because I enjoy movies like Iron Man.

I also saw Dark Shadows. Johnny Depp is a great actor and his movies are always entertaining.

Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls both surprisingly were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs. Injuries and bad play led to their exit. The San Antonio Spurs have a great chance and I think they may win it this year. They have a South American player from Brazil named Tiago Splitter.

Esta es mi última semana de clases por este año lectivo. Tengo algunas pruebas finales que tomar y unos proyectos por terminar. Estoy emocionado por la llegada del verano. Ha sido un año escolar estupendo. Tuve excelentes clases y profesores. 

Cine

He visto algunas buenas películas recientemente. Disfruté mucho “The Avengers” porque me gustan las películas como “Iron Man”.

También vi  “Dark Shadows”. Johnny Depp es un gran actor y las películas en las que actúa siempre son muy entretenidas.

Deportes

Los Lakers de Los Ángeles y los Bulls de Chicago fueron sorpresivamente eliminados de las semifinales de la NBA. Jugadores lesionados y el mal juego estuvieron detrás de su eliminación. Los Spurs de San Antonio tienen muchas posibilidades y creo que van a ganar el título este año. Cuentan con un jugador suramericano, oriundo de Brasil, llamado Tiago Splitter.

School, Golf, Baseball and Basketball!

School

I have just one more week of school left for this term. I have a few final projects to finish this week including some essays. I have had a great spring and I hope all of you did too!

Sports

Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas had a great week of golf at the Players Championship in Florida. He finished tied for 7th place at the very prestigious event. This was his best finish of the year. Matt Kuchar eventually won the tournament.

In Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in the league. The Dodgers have some Venezuelan players on the team including Bobby Abreu and Juan Rivera. My favorite team, the Oakland A's, are in 2nd place in their division.

The Basketball playoffs are underway. The Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs are considered the favorites. Unfortunately the New Orleans Hornets who have Greivis Vasquez on their team did not make the playoffs this year.

Estudios

Me queda una semana para finalizar las clases. Tengo unos pocos proyectos finales que terminar esta semana, entre ellos unos ensayos. ¡La primavera ha sido estupenda y espero que ustedes también la hayan pasado muy bien!

Deportes

El venezolano Jhonattan Vegas tuvo una gran semana de golf en el Campeonato de Florida. Terminó empatado en el 7mo lugar en esta prestigiosa competencia. Ha sido su mejor resultado este año. Matt Kuchar, al final, fue el vencedor del torneo.

En cuanto al béisbol, los Dodgers de Los Ángeles tienen el mejor desempeño en la liga. Los Dodgers cuentan con algunos jugadores venezolanos, entre los que se encuentran Bobby Abreu y Juan Rivera. Mi equipo favorito, los Atléticos de Oakland, está en el segundo lugar en su división.

Las semifinales del baloncesto ya comenzaron. Los Heat de Miami y los Spurs de San Antonio son considerados como los favoritos. Desafortunadamente, los Hornets de Nueva Orleans, que cuentan con Greivis Vásquez en su equipo, no lograron llegar a las semifinales este año.

Los Gigantes de San Francisco y El Lago Tahoe/ The San Francisco Giants and Lake Tahoe

Béisbol

Los Gigantes de San Francisco cuentan con dos grandes jugadores venezolanos: Gregor Blanco y Pablo Sandoval. Lamentablemente, Pablo sufrió una fractura en la mano y estará fuera de juego por lo menos durante un mes. Es un gran bateador y hará mucha falta al equipo. Actualmente, el equipo con el mejor desempeño son los Rangers de Texas.

Lago Tahoe

El lago Tahoe está ubicado en la región de la Sierra Nevada, que se encuentra cerca de la frontera de California. Es un gran lago de agua fresca y cristalina. En el verano, el lago atrae a muchos visitantes que desfrutan de los deportes acuáticos. Es un lugar hermoso. 

En el invierno, el lago Tahoe se convierte en un área popular para la práctica del esquí. Las montañas alrededor del lago tienen famosas laderas que atraen a muchos esquiadores de todo el mundo.

Hi Everyone!

Baseball

The San Francisco Giants have a couple of Venezuelan players on the team. Gregor Blanco and Pablo Sandoval are both great players. Unfortunately, Pablo broke his hand and will miss at least a month of games. He is a great hitter and will be missed on the team. Currently the team with the best record is the Texas Rangers.

Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is located in the Sierra Nevada region which is located near the border of California. It is a large freshwater lake and the water is very clear. In the summer, the lake attracts many visitors who enjoy water sports. It is a beautiful place to visit. 

In the winter, Lake Tahoe becomes a very popular ski area. The mountains surrounding the lake have famous ski slopes that attract many people from all over the world.

El Árbol de Madera Roja de California/California Redwoods

¡Hola a todos!

Esta semana me gustaría tratar algunos aspectos propios de California.

Estudios

No puedo creer que ya casi estén cerca las vacaciones de verano. ¡Estoy muy contento por ello! Mis estudios han ido muy bien y tengo que terminar algunos proyectos de curso antes del fin del año lectivo.

El Árbol de Madera Roja de California

En el norte de California, hay unos enormes árboles de madera roja (Redwoods). Son parte de la familia secuoya y algunos árboles tienen más de 1000 años. Son increíbles y se puede obtener una buena idea de su tamaño al pararse al lado de uno de ellos. ¡Algunos han llegado a medir más de 107 metros de alto! Estos árboles son un excelente símbolo natural para California.

Nutrias

Una de mis especies favoritas de la vida marina es la nutria. Son criaturas pequeñas que forman parte de la familia de las comadrejas. Se pueden ver en toda costa norte de California. Es entretenido verlas por la manera en que se comportan. Son una parte maravillosa de la vid marina de California.

Hello Everyone!

This week I would like to talk about some native elements of California.

School

I can't believe the spring term is almost over. My studies have been going well and I have some class projects to finish before the end of the year. I am certainly excited for summer!

California Redwood Tree

In Northern California, there are enormous trees called Redwoods. They are part of the Sequoia family and some trees have been around for over 1000 years. The trees are amazing to look at and you get a great sense for their size when you stand next to one. Some have been measured at over 350 feet in height! These trees are an excellent natural symbol for California.

Sea Otter

One of my favorite species of marine life is the sea otter. They are small creatures that are part of the weasel family. You can see them around Northern California just off the coast. They can be very entertaining to watch because of their behavior. Sea otters are a wonderful part of California marine life.

Estudios

Queda menos de un mes para las vacaciones de verano. Estoy my contento de terminar mis proyectos y ensayos de fin de curso. Muchas universidades ofrecen clases en el verano para estudiantes que quieran avanzar o tengan que ponerse al día con sus estudios. Voy a tomar clases este verano para adelantar mis estudios de matemáticas.

Baloncesto

La temporada regular de la Asociación Nacional de Baloncesto (NBA) finaliza hoy y las semifinales comienzan en unos cuantos días. Creo que o los Spurs de San Antonio o los Heat de Miami podrían ganar el campeonato. También, los Lakers de Los Ángeles siempre son favoritos, gracias a su gran jugador, Kobe Bryant.

Acuario de la Bahía de Monterey 

Uno de mis sitios favoritos en California es el Acuario de la Bahía de Monterey. El acuario está ubicado en Monterey, en el norte de California. Una de las principales características del acuario es que el agua fresca del océano es bombeada hacia grandes tanques que contienen increíbles especies marinas. Me encanta ver las nutrias y los pingüinos.

Hi Everyone!

School

There is less than a month left in my studies for the spring term. I am excited to be finishing my final projects and essays. At most schools there are classes available in the summer for students to get ahead or catch up on their studies. I will be taking classes this summer to get ahead on my math studies.

Basketball

The National Basketball Association regular season ends today and the playoffs begin in a few days. I think the San Antonio Spurs or the Miami Heat could win the championship. Also, the Los Angeles Lakers always have a great chance because of their great player, Kobe Bryant.

Monterey Bay Aquarium 

One of my favorite sites in California is the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The aquarium is located in Monterey which is in Northern California. One of the main features of the aquarium is that fresh ocean water is pumped into massive tanks which hold some amazing marine species. I enjoy watching the sea otters and penguins.
